Oliver's Legacy

“I’ll be a man who walks with the LORD in worship; I’ll be a man who walks with men as friend. I’ll be a man who loves and serves his family; I’ll be a man on whom the LORD can depend. Master and Messiah Yeshua, my king and my commander, I’ll be your man until my life shall end.” – Oliver Hamilton

Oliver Augustus Hamilton was born on July 27, 1943 in British Guiana (Guyana). He grew up living a country boy’s life, nicknamed “Dugal” by his compadres, a rascal to the bone, and curiously adventurous. He enjoyed recounting countless stories to his family of his escapades, always reminiscing fondly of these good ol’ days.

In his teenage years, Oliver became fascinated with how things work, and he was gifted when it came to understanding the mechanical and electrical functioning of machinery. As a result, he attended Government Technical Institute in Georgetown, Guyana where he was trained in these fields of expertise. It was here at the age of 17 that he had a life-changing encounter. During a lab experiment at his final exam, there was an explosion in the laboratory and he was permanently diagnosed as blind; over many months, despair kicked in.

One day, while listening to the radio, he heard a radio broadcast where an evangelist was preaching about the concept of faith and the healing power of Jesus. The preacher spoke out: “If you have faith, reach out and touch the radio as a point of contact.” Oliver reached out by faith and touched the radio; he vividly recalls being completely overwhelmed with peace. The next day, he woke up and could see light dimly coming in from top of the window in his room. The following day, he could make out the silhouettes of people. And on the third day, he was completely healed of blindness. This was the beginning of Oliver’s pursuit of God that changed the spiritual trajectory of his life.

In his early 20s, Oliver worked as the youngest mechanical engineer at the Guyana Rice Marketing Board where, despite his youth, he moved up rapidly into a managerial capacity. During a visit to one of his sisters in Toronto, he made a life-changing decision by taking up residency here. It was here that Oliver began to develop his electrical engineering skills in the many jobs that he was employed.

It was also here that Oliver met the love and “Doll” of his life, Fawzia; they were married on October 16, 1976, and they started a family. Bonnie was born in 1978, David in 1981, and Kristen in 1988.

In 1988, Oliver started his own business – Megatech Integrated Services – where he utilized his electronics skills to the highest degree of excellence in the audio-visual industry. Over 33 years, he built up a notable reputation in the industry because of his expert skills and abilities, taking the company to new heights.

Throughout these many years, Oliver was always committed and involved in many church communities in various capacities – as sound technician, teacher, deacon and elder, just to name a few. He also faithfully served on the board of directors at the Christian school where his children attended.

Oliver’s life was so impactful and exemplary that it touched so many lives around the world. Indeed, he has left a Godly legacy for us all.

His ultimate desire was to live a righteous life, pleasing in the eyes of the LORD; a man of prayer; a lover of the Word of God; and a fervent supporter of the Jewish people.

He was a man of principle and integrity, truth and justice; a great mentor and teacher; a statesman, classy and charming; he always had a smile on his face; he was diligent, always striving for excellence.

He was a beloved and faithful husband, and devoted father and grandfather.
