What does it mean to be like Yeshua? It means to replicate the life that he lived and the teachings that he taught. Why? Because Yeshua merely replicated his Father in Heaven.
Yeshua said in Matthew 5:48:
“Therefore, be perfect, just as your Father in Heaven is perfect.”
Paul wrote in Ephesians 5:1-2:
“So imitate God, as His dear children; and live a life of love, just as also the Messiah loved us, indeed, on our behalf gave himself up as an offering, as a slaughtered sacrifice to God with a pleasing fragrance.”
We imitate God by living our lives, as Yeshua taught us, by living a life of love.
The greatest impact we can make on the world is the testimony or witness of our love to one another. This is not a self-centered love based on selfish motivation.
Thus, our imitation is two-fold:
A sweet-smelling and pleasing fragrance to our LORD in absolute humility
A sacrifice and ministry to one another grounded in love
In order to imitate, we must know and be acquainted with the character and personage of the one we are imitating. We must be totally disposed in fidelity to his nature and character.
As we imitate Yeshua, let us show forth the excellency of his character in our relations one to another. As a result, we learn to ultimately imitate God, and just as God was impartial and shows mercy to all, offers salvation to all, justifies all who are saved, and desires to conform all of us into the image and likeness of Yeshua, so our love is to abound.
Abound means to gain momentum. In scientific terms, momentum is the ability of a body to continue in motion in a straight line unless acted upon by external forces.
In other words, we must be intentional, fixing our eyes on Yeshua.
As Hebrews 12:1-2 says:
“…let us put aside every impediment – that is, the sin which easily hampers our forward movement [our momentum] – and keep running with endurance in the contest set before us, looking to the initiator and completer of that trusting, Yeshua…”
